Cuttack, Oct 19: Festive fervour has gripped Cuttack city as the five-day long Dussehra festivities are going to begin from Friday.
The puja mandaps will glaze with silver and gold from tomorrow as the silver city is known for its royal backdrops (chandi medha), crowns and ornaments of Goddess Durga.
This year, the city will showcase 32 silver backdrops with rich filigree works. Four new silver backdrops are being added to the city's Durga Puja celebration.
Mohammadia Bazar puja committee launched its filigree work based silver backjdrop on Wednesday. Kafla Bazar, Nimasahi and Nimchouri puja committees are all set to launch their silver backdrops of Goddess Durga soon.
These four silver backdrops with filigree works are the main attraction of Cuttack Durga Puja this year.
The Silver altar culture began in Cuttack 67 years ago with Choudhury Bazar puja mandap introducing it for the first time in 1956.
Later, other puja committees of the city followed the trend and the number reached 28. With launching of this year's four new silver backdrops, the number will reach 32. Similarly, several puja mandaps are famous for gold crown of Maa Durga.
