Cuttack, April 4: A special team of Cuttack Municipal Corporation on Wednesday conducted raids on several sarbat and lassi shops across the city.
With the rise in temperature, hundreds of makeshift sarbat and lassi shops have opened in the city. They are allegedly using some restricted flavours and chemicals to make the refreshing drink tastier following which quality of the drinks remains a concern.
A special team of CMC headed by the civic body's health officer Dr Satyabrata Mohapatra conducted surprise raids on over 10 sarbat and lassi shops in Buxi Bazar, Chandi Chhak and Seminar Chhak in the city.
Most of the shops were found to be using chemicals permitted for ice-cream making. The team also destroyed around 20 kg stale curd and sent ice samples to laboratory for quality assessment.
Stall owners are not adhering quality and using chemicals hazardus for health, said CMC food safety officer Rashmita Behera.
