Balasore, June 21: The curfew in Balasore town remained in effect on Friday, with no reports of any untoward incidents. Authorities have extended the curfew until midnight on June 21, allowing a relaxation period from 6 am to 12 noon for residents to meet their essential needs.
Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath stated, “So far, 34 people have been arrested and another 35 detained. We currently have 40 platoons of police deployed in the area, with an additional six platoons of BSF set to arrive soon to support the district police.”
Residents are facing shortages of essential commodities, with vegetable prices soaring. The disconnection of internet services has compounded difficulties for students and locals.
Business establishments, along with private and government-run institutions, remain closed, and entry points to the town have been sealed. Internet services remain suspended to prevent the escalation of tensions and control the spread of misinformation via social media.
