CUET UG 2026 exam scheduled for May 28 postponed; NTA to announce fresh dates soon

New Delhi, May 25: In a major development affecting lakhs of students across the country, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the CUET UG 2026 examination scheduled to be held on May 28.

The decision comes at a time when candidates were busy with their final phase of preparation for the examination. In a public notice issued on May 24, the NTA clarified that both shifts of the examination scheduled for May 28, 2026, will no longer be conducted on the earlier announced date.

According to the agency, the postponement was necessitated due to changes made by the Government of India in the holiday schedule for Eid-ul-Zuha, also known as Bakrid. Taking the revised holiday notification into consideration, the agency decided to defer the examination.

The NTA further informed that the fresh examination dates will be announced shortly.

Students have been advised to regularly visit the official NTA website for updates regarding the revised exam schedule and admit cards. Candidates facing any issues or having queries related to the examination can contact the NTA helpdesk through the helpline number 011-40759000 or via email at [email protected].

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) is conducted for admission into undergraduate courses offered by several central, state and private universities across the country. Over the last few years, it has emerged as one of India’s largest entrance examinations.

As the postponement directly impacts lakhs of aspirants and their families, education experts have advised students not to panic and to continue their preparation without interruption, as the revised dates may be announced anytime soon.

According to official data released by the NTA, a total of 15,68,866 candidates have registered for CUET UG 2026. The examination is being conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for admission into undergraduate programmes at leading universities across India.
