Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: Cold conditions are set to intensify across Odisha from Monday, with night temperatures expected to fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Most parts of interior and southern Odisha are likely to experience a sharp chill.

According to the IMD forecast, minimum temperatures on Monday are expected to remain between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius in Phulbani, Boudh, Angul, Sonepur, Balangir, Titlagarh, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur. On Tuesday, temperatures may drop further, with Phulbani recording around 8 degrees Celsius, Koraput 9 degrees, Boudh and Bhawanipatna 10 degrees, and Rourkela, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda around 11 degrees. Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Malkangiri may see minimum temperatures close to 12 degrees.

The IMD has warned that severe cold conditions may prevail on the 8th in Angul, Boudh, Phulbani, Bhawanipatna, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Titlagarh, and Balangir. Very dense fog is likely in Jajpur and Nayagarh, while dense fog may occur in Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Sundargarh. Light to moderate fog is also expected at several places in interior and southern Odisha.

Meanwhile, cold conditions were already evident on Saturday night, with G Udayagiri recording the lowest minimum temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius. Koraput registered 10.2 degrees, which was 2.3 degrees below normal. Phulbani recorded 8.5 degrees, Semiliguda 9.1 degrees, Jharsuguda 11.5 degrees, and Rayagada 12 degrees Celsius. Dense fog in Jajpur reduced visibility to less than 50 metres, while moderate fog was reported from Jagatsinghpur, Bhubaneswar, Gopalpur, Khordha, Dhenkanal, and Phulbani.
