Lahore, Aug 31: Should India play the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan? Or, like the Asia Cup 2023, should the Champions Trophy 2025 be held in a hybrid model?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have left the decision on the Indian Government. In all likelihood, Team India may not tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
With BCCI Secretary Jay Shah being all set to take over as the next President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and India unwilling to play in Pakistan, expectations are high that the ICC multination event will be held in a hybrid model.
But former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has recently issued a statement in the press saying Jay Shah should play a role in India playing Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Latif even stated that there is 50 per cent chances that India will play Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
But the latest to join the debate is former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria. In an interaction with a section of media Kaneria raised safety concerns about Indian players touring Pakistan.
Kaneria further stated that the Champions Trophy may be held in Dubai.
It can be recalled that Indian last toured Pakistan in 2008 to play the Asia Cup. Pakistan last played a bilateral series in India in 2012-13 and played five ODIs.
However, Pakistan last toured India in 2023 and played the ODI World Cup. But prior to that the Asia Cup 2023 was held in a hybrid model. India played all their matches in Sri Lanka including the final and won the trophy.
