Mumbai, Aug 17: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a trendsetter. The two-time World Cup winning former India skipper has been one of the most successful captains across formats.

In Indian Premier League (IPL) too he has enjoyed enviable success both as a player and a leader. While fans across India continue to get excited and elated every time Dhoni steps into the field in CSK jersey, the question about his possible retirement from IPL as a player continues to get uncertain and unpredictable.

The latest development regarding Dhoni's IPL stint is, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to bring up an old rule at Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) request, which could help the franchise retain Dhoni, reports revealed.

As per the rule, players who have retired from international cricket for more than five years can be put in the uncapped category. Since the inaugural issue of the IPL in 2008, the uncapped rule has been in function till 2021. But since it was never used by any franchise until 2021,  it was scrapped. But it is likely to return and Dhoni is likely to play as an uncapped player, sources added.
