Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: The actions of the leader are followed by the people, said President Droupadi Murmu today, while stressing that members of the state Assembly should always follow discipline in their words and conduct, both within the House and outside.

Addressing the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Murmu delivered a strong message on the responsibilities and ethical conduct expected from elected representatives.

Emphasising that the behaviour of leaders shapes public conduct, she reminded MLAs that their words and actions carry immense influence.

“The actions of the leader are followed by the people,” she said, urging members of the House to maintain discipline both within the Assembly and beyond its walls.

Her message came at a time when legislative bodies across the country are often scrutinised for disruptions, charged exchanges, and political polarisation.

While expressing nostalgia about her own journey as a former member of the Odisha Assembly, she said the House had taught her invaluable lessons in public service.

“…Whatever I am today is because of this Assembly, the blessings of the people of Odisha, and Lord Jagannath,” she noted.

She also praised various developmental initiatives of the state government including Subhadra scheme for women, and subsidies for farmers.
