Leaders Elevate Ties to Special Global Strategic Partnership Level

A spectacular chapter in international diplomacy unfolded this Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron stood together at the iconic Gateway of India. In a move set to redefine technological cooperation, the two leaders officially inaugurated the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.

Innovators, startup founders, researchers, and industry captains from both nations gathered to witness this landmark occasion. The launch serves as a concrete step following the crucial decision to elevate bilateral ties to a 'Special Global Strategic Partnership.'

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the boundless nature of this friendship during the event. Addressing the joint press conference, he emphasized that this alliance stretches from the depths of the oceans to the highest mountains. He noted that in a world facing unpredictable geopolitical changes, the India-France bond stands as a vital pillar for global stability and progress. Modi further expressed that his personal rapport with President Macron has injected fresh energy into these decades-old ties.

Echoing these sentiments, President Macron described the relationship as one defined by ambition and absolute trust. Marking his fourth official visit to India, the French leader praised the unique openness shared between the two democracies. He stated that over the past eight years, New Delhi and Paris have consistently charted new paths together, granting the partnership a completely new status.

The ceremony concluded with a mesmerizing light show projected onto the Gateway of India, visually celebrating the rich heritage and shared democratic values of both countries. President Macron, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, is scheduled to continue his state visit until February 19, engaging in further dialogues across the financial and national capitals.
