Sukma, January 30: In a significant development, four Naxalites, including two women, surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Friday, bringing an end to their association with the Maoist movement. The cadres, who carried a total bounty of Rs 8 lakh, handed over their weapons to the authorities.

The individuals, hailing from the Kistaram area committee of the south Bastar division of Maoists, voluntarily gave themselves up as part of the state’s ‘Poona Margem’ initiative, aimed at facilitating the rehabilitation and social reintegration of former insurgents.

According to Sundarraj P, the Inspector General of Police for Bastar Range, the Naxalites expressed their admiration for the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, which played a key role in their decision to lay down their arms.
