Rourkela, Oct 14: In a crackdown on the alleged sale of counterfeit branded rice, Plant Site Police in Rourkela conducted raids on two rice warehouses in the city on Tuesday night.
The raids were carried out at a rice warehouse in Dinnanath Gali and another in the Plant Site Market area. According to allegations, low-quality rice was being repackaged under the names of several reputed brands and sold in the Rourkela market. Hundreds of quintals of rice were allegedly being marketed locally and transported to other areas for sale.
The action followed written complaints lodged by several rice companies at the Plant Site Police Station, alleging the misuse of their brand names and the sale of rice under misleading labels.
Following the complaints, police raided the two warehouses and launched an investigation into the alleged racket.
Meanwhile, Anjan Agarwal has been detained for questioning in connection with the case. Plant Site Police are investigating the matter to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and identify others who may be involved.
