Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: In a significant move to restore order on campus, Utkal University authorities have launched a crackdown to evict non-students illegally residing in Vani Vihar hostels. The operation began today with the support of the Commissionerate Police, amid rising tension across the university premises.
A total of 10 platoons of police force, along with senior officers, have been deployed to oversee the eviction process. According to sources, the university administration sought police assistance specifically for the clearance of Hostels 1, 2, 3, and 5, which are reported to have the highest concentration of non-student occupants.
To ensure law and order, riot control vehicles have also been stationed at key entry points of the campus. Each hostel has been assigned a senior police officer to monitor the situation and ensure a smooth operation.
Simultaneously, comprehensive checks are being conducted across all hostels within the Vani Vihar campus. The administration has also implemented special traffic arrangements to facilitate the large-scale operation and prevent any untoward incident.
The move comes after repeated complaints regarding the presence of outsiders in university accommodations, which officials say has led to law and order concerns in recent months.
