Joda, July 2: Repair works are on the recently inaugurated longest flyover of Odisha at Joda in Keonjhar district following development of cracks.
The construction company has stopped plying of heavy vehicles from Monday after iron bars popped out of concrete at several places on the 2.9 km long flyover along with development of cracks. The company has undertaken the repair work on war footing to avoid media attention.
The flyover said to be longest in Odisha with a length of 2,980 metre was constructed by Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) at an estimated cost of over Rs 250 crore at Joda in Keonjhar district. It was inaugurated on March 11 this year. OBCC General Manager Narasingha Mahanta during inauguration said the longevity of the bridge would be over 100 years. However, the development of cracks has raised concern over construction quality of the flyover.
On the other hand, Bhagirathi Panda, Human Resources Manager of the construction company, Chevrox Constructions Pvt Ltd, said the flyover has a capacity of 200 MT. The wearing course gets damaged due to overload and it needs repair at regular intervals.
