Bhubaneswar, May 27: COVID-19 cases in the country have crossed the 1,000 mark, prompting the Union Health Ministry to convene a high-level review meeting with all states and union territories. The meeting, scheduled for 12 PM tomorrow, will be chaired by the Union Health Secretary to assess the current COVID situation across the country.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Neelakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health, Odisha, confirmed that the overall situation remains under control. He noted that while two new variants have been identified by the Centre, they are not considered highly dangerous.
Odisha has reported only one COVID-19 case so far. “The patient is stable and recovering well. None of the family members have shown any symptoms,” Dr. Mishra stated.
Revised guidelines from the health authorities now recommend that asymptomatic contacts of positive cases will not require testing. Dr. Mishra also assured that the Odisha Health Department is in regular coordination with the Central Government, ICMR, and WHO.
“There is no need to panic,” he emphasized, urging the public to remain alert but calm.
