Bhubaneswar, March 5: A couple from Odisha’s Bhubaneswar on Tuesday knocked cyber cell after receiving a fake lucky coupon from an online shopping company as gift voucher.
With it, the intelligent couple, identified as Dipak Mishra and his better half, averted a financial loss which was about to be debited from their savings bank account just on a click.
According to allegation raised before the police, Mishra family used to order apparels from the Meesho online shopping company. Meanwhile, they received a lucky coupon worth Rs 11 lakh today via registered post.
On another brochure attached to the gift voucher, the receiver was asked to deposit a sizeable amount to exchange the won amount. Besides, the bank account number and essential credentials embedded to the savings bank were mentioned to be essentially sent to a certain phone number through a text message.
However, going through the instruction, Mishra suspected it a cyber fraud and did not respond to the sender in any way. Subsequently, he informed the cyber cell regarding the misleading bid of the remotely operating fraudsters.
Cyber sleuths during investigation found that the gift coupon was fake and meant for hatching cyber fraud.
Further investigation is underway on the basis of the sender’s address. Nobody should either login or respond to any pirated links whatever credulous offer a stranger promises, said police.
