London, Aug 14: He is one of the leading leg-spinners of India. But in recent times, he has not been a regular in Team India set-up. Of course, he was part of India's 2024 World Cup winning T20 team. But did not play a single match.
But that does not deter Yuzvendra Chahal, the ever willing fighter and never say no cricketer. Chahal is all set to join Northamptonshire for their final Royal London One-Day Cup match, against Kent, and will also play the five remaining County Championship fixtures for the team, revealed sources.
County cricket is not new for Chahal. He spent time at Kent in the 2023 season, and took nine wickets in two games.
Excited with his inclusion in the squad, Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler stated Chahal will add extra variety and depth to the club's bowling attack. He is highly experienced and skilful. His wicket-taking ability is likely to bolster the team's chances, Sadler reportedly stated to a section of media.
Earlier in April this year, Chahal became the first bowler in IPL to reach the mark of 200 wickets. He was one of four frontline spinners in India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad, but did not get a game.
During MS Dhoni's captaincy and even till his retirement from international cricket, Chahal use to be one of the preferred spinners in Team India's set-up. Along with his spin-twin Kuldeep Yadav, he enjoyed success and fashioned several Indian wins.
Several India players have revived their struggling careers in the past after playing County cricket. Will Chahal be able to sharpen his skills, get his confidence back and will Indian selectors prioritise him again as one of the frontline spinners? Well, we will have to wait and see.
