Reported Brief: Adani Group and Local Lifeguards Partner to Save 156 Lives During Puri Rath Yatra
Puri, July 7, 2025 – Amidst the gathering of a million devotees at this year's Rath Yatra, a powerful story of courage and service unfolded on the shores of Puri. A timely collaboration between the Adani Group and Puri's traditional lifeguards resulted in the rescue of 156 people over a period of just ten days, showcasing a remarkable blend of community dedication and corporate support.
The initiative was inspired by the belief of Adani Group Chairman, Mr. Gautam Adani, that "Seva hi Sadhana hai" (Service is worship). This philosophy was put into practice by supporting the local lifeguards, who come from the Nolia fishing community and have served as traditional lifesavers for generations. Their selfless service during the festival was truly exceptional.
In a meaningful and well-timed gesture, the Adani Group recognised the lifeguards' extraordinary service by providing them with essential rescue equipment. This support included life jackets, torches, rescue ropes, and other critical gear. The equipment enabled the lifeguards to perform their duties with enhanced safety and confidence, even among the massive crowds.
Over 450 trained members of the Nolia community, operating under the Puri Beach Lifeguard Federation, patrolled key areas of the beach from morning until evening. Their vigilance and bravery were instrumental in ensuring the safety of countless visitors.
The Adani Group's support extended beyond the lifeguards. The company also provided fluorescent jackets and gloves to the municipal sanitation workers, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and order during the festival. This partnership has set a new standard for public welfare, demonstrating how thoughtful collaboration can create a significant positive impact.
This joint effort between the Adani Group and the local community stands as a strong example of how compassion and corporate responsibility can come together to protect and serve people, especially during an event as significant as the Puri Rath Yatra.
