Dhenkanal, Oct 19: In a tragic incident, an elderly man died after being hit and subsequently ‘dragged’ by a moving goods train near a railway track in Kamakhyanagar area of Odisha's Dhenkanal district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Gumani Behera, a resident of Shabarsahi in Mathakaragola village under Kamakhyanagar police limits.

According to reports, Gumani was heading to his farmland when the accident occurred. As he tried to cross the railway track, a goods train suddenly approached. While attempting to move away, Gumani became trapped near the edge of the track. A metal part attached to the moving train struck him and dragged him, causing his death on the spot.

Upon getting the information, police along with railway officials arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident, said the police.
