Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: A significant portion of government land in Bhubaneswar, spanning over 500 acres, has come under the illegal possession of land grabbers, according to the latest reports. These encroachments primarily involve prime plots in areas such as Jaydev Vihar, Gadakana, and Chandrasekharpur, with the total estimated value of the land running into crores of rupees.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi provided an update on this issue during the ongoing assembly session. In response to a question raised by Tankadhar Tripathi, the Chief Minister revealed that a total of 24,990 acres of government land are under the jurisdiction of the Capital Administration. Of this, nearly 500 acres have been identified as encroached land.

Prominent areas affected by land grabs include:

Jayadev Vihar: 148 acres

Chandrasekharpur: 33 acres

Gadakana: 32 acres

CM Majhi stated that the government has been actively identifying and removing these encroachments through various measures. In the process, the government has taken the help of a dedicated task force, which includes officials from the Enforcement and Revenue Departments, to expedite the removal of these illegal possessions.

The government has already initiated legal proceedings against the land grabbers. Detailed investigations are being carried out, and following the completion of the investigation, cases will be filed, and appropriate action will be taken to evict the encroachers. The government is also working closely with local enforcement teams to monitor the situation and prevent further illegal encroachments.

Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned that this year, the authorities have successfully recovered 74 acres of government land from illegal encroachers. The newly established monitoring committee is using modern technology, including mobile apps to detect and remove encroachments in a more efficient manner.

Majhi assured the assembly that the government is committed to safeguarding public land from illegal activities and has intensified enforcement to ensure that such encroachments are removed swiftly and lawfully.
