Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu), Nov 6: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage and protests, a young woman from Odisha and her male friend from Bengaluru have been arrested for allegedly installing a hidden camera inside a women’s hostel bathroom in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

According to police sources, the accused, 22-year-old Neelukumari Gupta, hailing from Odisha, was working at Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd’s Nagamangalam facility in Krishnagiri district. Neelukumari had been staying at the company’s women’s hostel, Vidiyal Residency, where the incident took place.

Police said that acting on the instigation of her 25-year-old friend, Santhosh, Neelukumari planted a secret camera in the bathroom of a room shared by women employees, most of whom were from northern states. The device was reportedly installed on November 2.

The shocking discovery triggered massive protests by hundreds of women employees of Tata Electronics, who gathered at the hostel demanding immediate action and better safety measures. The 11-storey hostel complex, spread across eight blocks, accommodates over 6,000 women workers employed at the company’s unit.

Following the uproar, Hosur Additional Collector Aakriti Sethi and Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai rushed to the spot, held discussions with the agitated employees, and assured them of strict action and enhanced security at the premises.

Police teams from Udanapalli arrested Santhosh from Bengaluru on November 5, while Neelukumari was taken into custody earlier.
