Bhubaneswar, March 15: The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), Chairman, Babita Patra, has issued a directive to all district administrations in the state to take immediate action to eliminate child begging. The commission's order comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the welfare and rights of children, emphasizing the need for stronger measures to curb this growing concern.

In the wake of increasing instances of children being forced into begging, OSCPCR has called for coordinated efforts between local authorities, child protection units, and non-governmental organizations to combat the practice. The commission has outlined a series of steps for district authorities, including regular surveillance, awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement of existing child protection laws.

The directive urges district administrations to identify vulnerable children, particularly those living on the streets, and provide them with immediate support, such as safe shelters, rehabilitation programs, and education opportunities. Furthermore, the commission stresses the importance of working closely with law enforcement agencies to apprehend those responsible for exploiting children through begging.

This initiative aims to protect children from exploitation and abuse, ensuring that they are given opportunities for a better future, free from the dangers of street life. The OSCPCR has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights of every child in Odisha and creating a supportive environment where they can thrive and grow.
