New Delhi, November 24:Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, flagged off two new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train services today at Baraut Railway Station. The new services connect Delhi to Shamli, with routes running between Delhi Junction and Shamli, and Delhi Shahdara and Shamli.

Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education, was also present at the event

Speaking to the large crowd at the station, Vaishnaw emphasized the ongoing efforts of Indian Railways to enhance passenger services under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted that the new MEMU services would provide improved connectivity for daily commuters, students, farmers, and professionals in the region. Vaishnaw also announced the development of Shamli station under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ with an investment of ₹25 crore, aimed at transforming the station into a modern, world-class facility.

The Union Minister noted that the inauguration of these two MEMU trains fulfilled a long-standing demand from the Shamli–Baghpat region and would significantly ease travel for local residents. The announcement of the doubling of the Delhi–Shamli railway section was met with widespread applause from the gathered crowd.

Vaishnaw also shared impressive achievements in Uttar Pradesh's rail infrastructure, stating that since 2014, over 5,270 kilometers of new tracks have been laid in the state—equivalent to the entire rail network of Switzerland. Additionally, the state has achieved 100% electrification of its railway lines. He noted that 1,460 flyovers and road underbridges have been constructed, along with the installation of 154 lifts and 156 escalators at various stations. Wi-Fi is now available at 771 stations across the state. Currently, 34 Vande Bharat Express and 26 Amrit Bharat Express trains are operational in Uttar Pradesh.

Among those present at the event were Baghpat MP Rajkumar Sangwan, former MP Dr. Satyapal Singh, MLC Mohit Beniwal, MLA Krishan Pal Malik, and Baghpat Nagar Palika Chairperson Babita Tomar, who all expressed their gratitude to Vaishnaw for fulfilling this important regional demand.
