Bhubaneswar, July 29: Odisha Assembly on Monday witnessed an uproarious scene after the Congress moved a breach of privilege notice against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi over his recent announcement of a 10% reservation for Agniveers.
As the uproar prevailed, Speaker Surama Padhi, unable to run the house, adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm.
The members of the Congress stormed into the well and created a ruckus by raising slogans. Following the ruckus, Speaker Padhi first adjourned the house for 20 minutes and until 4 PM.
Recently, CM Majhi announced a 10% reservation for Agniveers from the state in all uniformed services outside the Assembly during the ongoing Budget session.
Senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati questioned the appropriateness of the Chief Minister's actions, saying, "How right was it for the Chief Minister to make such an announcement while the assembly session is ongoing?"
He further remarked, "CM Majhi had brought breach of privilege notices against two ministers when he was in opposition. How can he now violate the rules himself?"
Similarly, BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik criticized the Chief Minister, asking, "Did the Chief Minister consult with the Home, Finance, and AG departments before making the announcement regarding Agniveers?"
She also demanded an apology from CM Majhi for breaking the rules of the house.
On the other hand, BJP leader and Bhatli MLA Irasis Acharya, countered the Congress by asking, "Did Congress consult with the Speaker of the House before bringing the breach of privilege notice?"
"Before entering the assembly, I saw various media outlets reporting that the opposition was planning to bring a breach of privilege notice in the House. Based on this, I have also moved a breach of privilege notice against the Congress for disclosing House affairs outside without the Speaker's consent," added Acharya.
