Khariar, May 17: A complaint has been registered against BJD's Khariar candidate Adhiraj Panigrahi for threatening a local businessman with dire consequences for not giving money for his election expenditure, police said on Friday.
According to reports, Adhiraj Mohan Panigrahi had asked businessman Haresh Agarwal of Shantinagar area to give Rs 50 lakh for his election expenses on May 13.
Haresh Agarwal, who is a BJP supporter, however, did not pay heed to his demand following which Panigrahi's henchmen reached his residence and threatened him and his family members with dire consequences if he and his brother Sanjib Agarwal do not pay Rs 25 lakh each for election expenses.
Haresh filed a police complaint on Thursday alleging that the BJD leader has threatened to kill him.
Local BJP leaders have demanded register of a case against Panigrahy and his arrest within three days.
Khariar SDPO Arup Abhishek Behera said two similar complaints have been lodged against Panigrahi at Khariar police station and action will be taken after completion of the ongoing investigation.
