Bhubaneswar, August 10: All the higher educational institutes in Odisha have been directed to form a committee to keep hostel and campus drugs free with release of a toll-free helpline number to register complaint for violations.
Besides, an enforcement team will be formed to keep watch on implementation of the guidelines to make campuses drugs free.
The University Grants Commission has written to all colleges and universities across the country to implement the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) to make educational campuses drug free. The move is being implemented under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Under the NMBA, students will now have to submit an anti-drug declaration during their admissions at all higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Odisha. The Higher Education department had informed the institutions in this regard in January.
The institutions - public universities, government and non-government aided colleges (both technical and general) – are directed to make anti-drug affidavits from the students mandatory.
The declaration prohibits the students from carrying, selling and consuming drugs, alcohol and tobacco products within their campuses. Besides, students are expected to report to the institution authorities of any instances of drug/alcohol/tobacco consumption and sale by any student or staff on the premises or nearby.
