Baripada, Sept 4: In a fierce incident, a college going boy hacked his paternal aunt to death on Wednesday over a minor duel.
The incident took place at Dahikoti village under the Betanati police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Charulata Mishra (64), while the accused is Kanduru alias Tanmay Kumar Mishra.
Sources said, Kanduru had an altercation with his aunt Charulata over some issue. Following this, Kanduru hacked Charulata with a sharp weapon that led the elderly woman succumb on spot.
Responding to the woman’s alarm, locals rushed to the spot and overpowered Kanduru with the weapon. Later, he was handed over to the police.
Betanati police have registered a murder case, seized the body and sent it for postmortem.
A case has been registered in this connection. The accused has been apprehended from the crime spot, said the Investigation Officer.
