Nayagarh, Jan 2: Collection of wood logs for crafting of Puri Raths began in Odisha’s Nayagarh on Tuesday.
A sacrosanct delegation from the Puri Shri Jagannath Temple formally inaugurated the cutting of trees following some traditional rituals before the Badaraul shrine at the Badamula village in the noon.
Sources said the SJTA delegation performed a puja before the presiding deity and offered an Agnya Mala, they had brought from the Shri Jagannath Temple. Subsequently, a team of woodcutters were deployed to collect wood logs, which would be used in making chariots this year. Meanwhile, the DFO Nayagarh said that at least 350 plants have been readied for logs meant for new chariots.
Trunks for the remaining 462 logs will be selected soon said the DFO.
