Cold wave grips Odisha; Mercury dips sharply across several districts

Bhubaneswar, Nov 12: A cold wave swept across Odisha on Wednesday, bringing chilly mornings and biting winds to several parts of the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), night temperatures are expected to drop further by 2–3°C over the next 24 hours, with little change anticipated thereafter.

The cold conditions have particularly affected Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh districts, where temperatures have plummeted sharply. On Wednesday night, the mercury is likely to touch 10°C in Phulbani, Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Jharsuguda, while Keonjhar and Angul are expected to record around 12°C. Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Bhadrak may experience temperatures hovering near 13°C.

The chill is likely to persist, with Thursday night forecasts showing Phulbani steady at 10°C, and Jharsuguda, Angul, and Rourkela dipping to around 11°C.

The IMD has urged residents, particularly the elderly, children, and those with health issues, to take necessary precautions against the cold. Warm clothing and limited exposure to the early morning chill have been advised as Odisha braces for an extended cold spell.
