Similiguda Records Season's Lowest Temperature Amid Dense Fog Warnings

Winter conditions have intensified across the state as temperatures dropped significantly in the interior regions on Christmas Day. According to the latest observations from the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, dry weather prevailed over most districts, but a sharp dip in mercury levels has forced residents to bundle up.

Similiguda and Phulbani Freeze

Cold conditions are particularly severe in the hill stations and interior plains. Similiguda emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a shivering minimum temperature of 6.1°C. Following closely, Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 7.0°C.

Other areas witnessing single-digit night temperatures include Koraput at 6.8°C, Daringbadi at 7°C, and Jharsuguda at 8.6°C. While the nights are getting colder, Sundargarh recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 29.5°C.

Twin City Weather and Fog Updates

Residents of the capital city, Bhubaneswar, woke up to a foggy morning. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 15.0°C with dense fog reducing visibility to 100 meters. Cuttack remained slightly cooler at 13.6°C but reported nil fog conditions.

Visibility took a major hit in several districts. Very dense fog, with visibility dropping below 50 meters, was observed in Nayagarh and Dhenkanal. Dense fog (visibility between 50m and 200m) affected Paradip, Khordha, and Phulbani. Meanwhile, moderate to shallow fog was reported in areas like Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Chandbali, and Rourkela.

Forecast: No Relief from Cold, Fog to Continue

The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that there will be no large change in the Minimum Temperature (night temperature) during the next seven days across the districts of Odisha. This indicates that the chill will persist well into the New Year.

Furthermore, a fog warning remains in place for the coming days. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur during early morning hours at isolated pockets over several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Kandhamal. This forecast is valid for the next five days, urging commuters to drive with caution during morning hours.
