Malkangiri, Jan 17: Housing & Urban Development secretary Usha Padhee undertook a day-long visit to Malkangiri district and reviewed the progress of various infrastructure and development projects today.

During the visit, Padhee chaired a review meeting and assessed projects being implemented under the Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport Departments. Padhee is also Commerce & Transport secretary.

She interacted with district-level officers, reviewed departmental challenges, and discussed measures to improve service delivery and project execution.

She first visited Govindapalli to inspect the condition of the existing bus stand, followed by a visit to the newly constructed bus stand at Mathili, where passenger amenities and operational readiness were reviewed.

She later inspected the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Malkangiri, and held discussions with officials regarding administrative functioning and public service issues. Padhee also visited the newly constructed building of the Malkangiri Municipal Council.

At the compost centre under Swachh Bharat Mission located at MV-42 (Force Colony), the Principal Secretary interacted with sanitation workers and enquired about their working conditions, challenges, and opportunities to enhance their livelihood and welfare.

She reviewed the water conservation project at BB Guda Tank, situated in front of the District Collector’s office. Officials informed that an additional ₹2 crore is required for completion of the project. Directing the Municipal Council to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest, Padhee assured that the proposal would be considered for sanction by the Housing & Urban Development Department.

The Principal Secretary also reviewed the progress of the bus stand construction work in Malkangiri town, visited a nearby food centre, and interacted with local residents to understand public convenience and service-related concerns.

Inspecting the airstrip, she held detailed discussions with engineers of the Road & Buildings Department and emphasized expediting necessary measures to make the airstrip operational at the earliest.
