Malkangiri, Oct 12: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will launch Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) bus service from today in Malkangiri. The Chief Minister will visit Malkangiri district on October 12.
More than 1,000 buses connecting all gram panchayats, block headquarters and district headquarters with major cities and economic hubs across the state, will be rolled out under the scheme.
Worth mentioning, the state government on September 15 allocated Rs 3,178 crores for running buses under this Yojana.
On October 9, the Secretary to Chief Minister (5T) V.K. Pandian met the employees of buses under the LAccMI Scheme of the Odisha Government and advised them to treat the passengers as their own family members.
About 650 staff including bus drivers, conductors, and managers of the buses took part in the meeting of Pandian.
To bridge last-mile connectivity, the state government in 2014 had started the Biju Gaon Gadi Yojana with 561 small buses, but most of the buses fell into disuse during the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to the failure of the scheme. The Biju Gaon Gadi Yojana would now be subsumed under the scheme.
