Celebrating women’s health and empowerment through life-saving medical initiatives

Odisha Mining Corporation Limited (OMC) has taken a proactive step toward protecting its female workforce by launching a dedicated two-day health initiative. Commemorating International Women’s Day 2026, the corporation organized an OMC Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive on March 6th and 7th. This program specifically targeted women employees across its various operational hubs and the central headquarters to promote long-term preventive healthcare.

Protecting Health across Mining Regions

Shri Alok Kumar Pal, Director of HR, inaugurated the vaccination session at the company’s Bhubaneswar dispensary. The initiative was not limited to the capital; it stretched across the heart of Odisha's mining belts. Medical teams at regional facilities in Barbil, Gandhamardan, Daitari, JK Road, Rayagada, and Koira worked diligently to administer the HPV vaccine. This widespread reach ensured that women working in remote mining sites received the same level of medical care as those in the city.

Beyond the Vaccine: Education and Safety

This drive functioned as more than just a clinical event. OMC’s healthcare professionals used the opportunity to conduct sessions on the importance of early cancer screenings and routine health check-ups. Furthermore, the corporation has been building toward this celebration for months. During January and February, multiple workshops regarding the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) were held. These sessions highlight OMC's dedication to maintaining a professional environment where equality and safety are paramount.

Celebrating the Spirit of Women in Mining

A vibrant cultural event took place at the Head Office to honor the grit and professional achievements of women who contribute significantly to the mining industry. This gathering recognized the dedication of female professionals while reflecting the core values of the corporation. Aligned with this year’s United Nations theme for International Women’s Day – “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” – the celebration blended essential health services with cultural recognition, ensuring OMC continues to set a standard for inclusive corporate welfare in the state.
