Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about law and order in Bhubaneswar, a youth was fatally injured after allegedly being attacked by a group of miscreants with a sword while returning home from the Khandagiri Jatra on Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Chintu, a resident of Patrapada in Bhubaneswar, succumbed to his injuries after the brutal assault.

According to preliminary reports, Chintu was on his way home after watching a Jatra performance at the Khandagiri Mela when a group of assailants chased him on the AIIMS Bhubaneswar road and attacked him with a sword. Local residents, who heard his cries for help, reportedly found him lying in a pool of blood on the road and immediately rushed him to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. Despite efforts to save him, his condition remained critical, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

The police have launched an extensive investigation into the attack and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area in an effort to identify the assailants. Investigators are working to piece together the sequence of events and determine the motive behind the attack. Authorities are also exploring any possible links to local criminal activities, although the exact reason for the assault remains unclear.

This tragic incident has raised significant questions about the safety and security arrangements in Bhubaneswar, particularly during large public events like the Khandagiri Jatra, which attracts massive crowds from across the city and beyond. Local residents have expressed concerns about inadequate police patrolling in the area during such high-traffic events, with many calling for stronger security measures to ensure public safety.

As the investigation unfolds, the city’s law enforcement agencies are under increasing pressure to address growing concerns about public safety and improve measures for securing major public gatherings in the future.
