New Delhi, Mar 12: The 22nd installment of the government’s flagship farmer support scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan), is scheduled for release on March 13, 2026, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the installment from Guwahati, Assam, transferring more than Rs 18,640 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore farmer families across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Sharing details of the initiative, Chouhan said the move reflects the government’s commitment to farmers and its focus on honouring the country’s “annadatas.”

Since its launch in February 2019, the scheme has transferred over Rs 4.09 lakh crore directly to farmers’ accounts. With the release of the 22nd installment, the cumulative disbursement will exceed Rs 4.27 lakh crore.

Chouhan highlighted that the PM-Kisan scheme, introduced under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, provides direct income support to small and marginal farmers, laying the foundation for significant and sustained transformation in the agriculture sector.

Under the programme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments, credited directly to their bank accounts. More than 2.15 crore women farmers are also expected to benefit under the upcoming installment.

The timely financial assistance helps farmers cover agricultural expenses such as seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and other inputs, while also supporting household needs, including education and healthcare.

Chouhan further noted that the government is making sustained efforts to economically empower women farmers and strengthen rural households’ financial conditions through the PM-Kisan scheme. He added that several independent studies have found the initiative has boosted the rural economy by reducing farmers’ dependence on loans and encouraging greater investment in agriculture.
