Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today visited Odisha’s Bargarh and inaugurated 62 developmental projects including the 100-bedded Cancer Hospital worth over Rs 2149 crores.
Patnaik also laid the foundation stone of 21 other projects worth over Rs 263 crore in the district.
The projects which were inaugurated today include the Gangadhar Meher Irrigation Project which is built at a cost of Rs 1677.42 crore, a five-storied 100-bedded Cancer Hospital built at a cost of Rs 106.06 crore, and the Nrusinghanath Temple which has been transformed at an expense of Rs 22.78 crore.
The construction work of Sohela-Nuapada Biju Expressway and 37 High Schools redevelopment has also been completed.
Along with this, as many as 56 colleges have been transformed into modern education facility, five health care institutions have been transformed into 'Ama Hospital'.
In addition to this, 'Ama Bank' services have been made to 185 gram panchayats which were earlier deprived of banking facilities and 262 bus stops have been built under the ‘LaccMi’ scheme.
A total of 3135 projects being developed at an expense of Rs 126.50 crores under the ‘Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha’ initiative are also being implemented in the district.
Patnaik paid tribute to Swabhaba kabi Gangadhar Meher and freedom fighter Maa Parvati Giri on the occasion and said that Bargarh is the land of art and culture. The weavers of this region have given Odisha a unique identity across the world.
Speaking about the Cancer Hospital, Patnaik said that it will provide better healthcare services to people of Western Odisha. He further added that 11 cancer hospitals are being built across the state under the 5T initiative, for which over Rs 1000 crore rupees will be spent.
Water supply to more than 60 thousand acres of farm land in the district through the Gangadhar Meher irrigation project has started today. Farmers of Sohella, Bijepur, Barpali and Dunguripali blocks of the district will be especially benefited by this, he added.
Attending the program, 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian said that when Chief Minister announced the Gangadhar Meher Project, many people raised doubts about its completion and functioning. Bijepur is located 35 meters above the Hirakud dam. But the Chief Minister has made it successful by applying modern technology with strong will power.
In the program, Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary of Planning and Convergence Department Anu Garg delivered the welcome address and District Council President Manini Bhoi gave vote of thanks.
