Retired IAS officer takes charge following Sunday's crucial election.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Regional Branch of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) has a new leader at the helm. In a decisive Emergency General Body Meeting (EGM) held this past Sunday in Bhubaneswar, Sri Rajkishore Choudhury (Retd. IAS) was officially elected as the Chairman for the upcoming 2025–2027 term.

The leadership transition was finalized following a contest for the Chairman's post between Sri Choudhury and the outgoing Chairman, Dr. Karunakar Patnaik (Retd. IAS). To ensure a transparent and smooth process, the Executive Committee had unanimously appointed Sri Prasanna Kumar Misra, Retd. IAS, as the Returning Officer. The session was presided over by the branch's Vice Chairman, Sri Ashok Kumar Mohapatra. Upon the conclusion of the electoral procedures, the Returning Officer formally declared Sri Rajkishore Choudhury as the winner and the new Chairman of the IIPA Odisha Regional Branch.

This election serves as the final piece of the puzzle for the branch’s leadership team. Earlier in the year, during the Annual General Body Meeting on September 24, 2025, several other key positions were filled. At that time, Sri Ashok Kumar Mohapatra and Sri D. Pradhani were elected as Vice Chairmen, with Prof. Manoj Kar taking the role of Honorary Secretary and Dr. Prabhat Kumar Dash as Treasurer. Additionally, nine members were elected unopposed to the Executive Committee. The post of Chairman, however, remained to be filled until this recent EGM.

The Sunday meeting saw a gathering of prominent figures from the region's administrative and academic circles. Notable attendees included Sri Amiya Bhusan Tripathy (Retd. IPS), Dr. Arun Kumar Rath (Retd. IAS), Sri R. N. Senapati (Retd. IAS), and Sri B. K. Sharma (Retd. IPS), alongside distinguished academicians like Prof. Mihir Sethi and Prof. Anita Dash.

The proceedings wrapped up with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Honorary Secretary Prof. Manoj Kar, who acknowledged the active cooperation of all members in making the election a success.
