​​​​​​​Nuapada, Oct 18: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jay Dholakia on Saturday filed his nomination papers for the by-election to Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha.

Dholakia, son of late BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, arrived at the office of the Returning Officer amid a large procession that started at Khariar Road and passed through the town.

He submitted the his nomination papers in presence of senior party leaders, including BJP state president Manmohan Samal, ministers Rabinarayan Naik and Ganesh R Singhkhuntia and several sitting MLAs.

He expressed confidence that the party’s strong grassroots support will lead to a decisive victory.

Notably, the Nuapada by-poll has been necessitated by the untimely passing of his father, Rajendra Dholakia, on September 8.

The filing of nomination papers for the bypoll will continue until October 20, with scrutiny scheduled for October 22. Candidates may withdraw their nominations by October 24.

Voting for the by-election is scheduled for November 11. Vote counting will be done on November 14, with the entire election process concluding by November 16.
