​​​​​​​Balangir, Jan 2: The Forest officials in Odisha’s Balangir district recovered a female elephant carcass from a canal on Friday.

The incident took place under the Belgaon Section of Titilagarh Forest Range.

According to report, the locals spotted the carcass in a canal and informed it to the Range officials. A team visited the spot and fished out the female elephant carcass, after a tiring operation.

Following primary investigation, post mortem examinations of the deceased pachyderm were conducted by a team of veterinarians.

Responding to press queries, DFO Balangir said that, the female elephant was tracked a few days ago while straying in an ailing condition. Efforts were on to track & treat the pachyderm. However, it was discovered dead in the canal today.
