Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid tribute to prominent freedom fighter and patriot Madam Bhikaiji Cama on her birth anniversary.
In a post, the Chief Minister remembered Cama for her fearless contribution to India’s freedom struggle and her unwavering dedication to the nation. He said her spirit of sacrifice and commitment to the motherland would always be remembered.

Majhi also said that Bhikaiji Cama’s life, ideals and service to the country would continue to inspire people to dedicate themselves to the nation.
Madam Bhikaiji Cama was a courageous Indian freedom fighter and a prominent figure in the struggle for India’s independence from British rule. Born on 24 September 1861 in Bombay (now Mumbai), she dedicated her life to the cause of Indian freedom and worked extensively from abroad. She strongly advocated for India’s independence and used her writings and speeches to spread awareness about British rule. In 1907, she famously unfurled an early version of the Indian national flag at the International Socialist Congress in Stuttgart, Germany, becoming one of the first prominent Indians to do so on an international platform. She spent many years in exile but continued supporting India’s freedom movement. Madam Bhikaiji Cama returned to India in 1935 and passed away in 1936. She is remembered for her courage, patriotism, and important contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
