Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today held a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan to assess the law and order situation across Odisha. The CM emphasized the need for the police to adopt all necessary measures to ensure that the general public feels safe and secure.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and instructed that police personnel must remain in “action mode” at all times. He directed top police officers to monitor the implementation of this policy regularly and rigorously.

To strengthen on-ground policing, the CM ordered enhanced patrolling, particularly around educational institutions to ensure the safety of school and college students. He also called for improved traffic regulation and safety measures.

Expressing concern over the smuggling of brown sugar from neighboring states, Majhi stressed the need for independent and strict action to curb such activities. He highlighted that efforts to trace and rescue missing women and children are ongoing. Over the past year, 8,035 women and 3,306 girls have been rescued, the meeting revealed.

To fill vacant posts in the police department efficiently, the CM decided the formation of a dedicated Police Recruitment Board.

Majhi also called for stronger steps against drug trafficking and the illegal cultivation of cannabis, urging wider and more aggressive operations in these areas.

The meeting was attended by CM’s Advisor Prakash Mishra, Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, Principal Secretary to CM Shashwat Mishra, and other senior police officials.
