​​​​​​​Baripada, Jan 7: In a furious attack, a man in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district killed his father and a neighbor on Wednesday.

Apart from it, he left his own brother blood-bathed as he prevented him to stop the violence.

The incident took place at the Kushapada village under the Karanjia Police limit in the afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Prafulla Patra and Ganeswar Patra of the Kushapada village.

The Police detained the accused, identified as Mantu Patra, reportedly a mentally ill person, in this connection.

According to report, Mantu hacked his neighbor Ganeswar all of a sudden who died on the spot. In a bid to prevent further attack, Mantu’s father Prafulla and some others tried to overpower him, but in vain. Meanwhile, Mantu hacked them with the sharp weapon. As a result, Prafulla also succumbed to injuries on the spot whereas one of his son’s sustained critical injuries.

Following this, locals caught hold of the accused and dialed police.

The police seized the bodies from the spot, sent the injured one for treatment and detained the accused.

The reason behind the fatal attack is unclear so far, however the abnormal mental state might be a factor behind the incident, said locals.
