New Flight Service Connects Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda
Odisha has taken a significant step to improve intra-state connectivity with the launch of a new direct flight service between the capital city, Bhubaneswar, and the industrial hub of Jharsuguda. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi inaugurated the service on Saturday, highlighting its importance for the state's growth.
Boosting Regional Growth
The new flight, operated by Star Air, is expected to play a crucial role in the development of western Odisha. Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister stated that the service will bring the region closer to the state capital. He emphasised that it will help accelerate industrial growth, boost tourism, and encourage cultural exchange. The 76-seater aircraft will cover the distance in just 45 minutes.
Service Details and Future Plans
The flight has commenced operations with services on five days a week and is scheduled to become a daily service starting August 24. This initiative is supported by the state government's Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to ensure its success.
The Chief Minister also outlined the state's broader ambitions for its aviation sector. He noted that Bhubaneswar is now connected to four international destinations and several domestic locations within the state. Future plans include adding more flight routes and developing world-class infrastructure, such as a Maintenance, Repair, and Operation (MRO) facility at Bhubaneswar airport, to make Odisha a leading state in aviation.
