Cuttack, Nov 6: With over a lakh visitors expected at this year’s Baliyatra, the Food Safety Department of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has intensified monitoring of food stalls across the fairgrounds.

To ensure strict adherence to food safety standards, three dedicated inspection teams have been deployed at the fair. Additionally, a food testing vehicle from Bhubaneswar has been brought in to facilitate rapid analysis of food samples.

City Health Officer Nrupendu Satapathy has instructed all teams to educate vendors about proper food safety practices. So far, only 50 vendors have obtained licenses from CMC to operate at the fair.

“Every year, people flock to Baliyatra to enjoy a variety of foods. Unfortunately, some low-quality or stale food has led to health issues among visitors. This year, we are making every effort to ensure only high-quality food is served,” said Satapathy.

Vendors have been advised to follow hygiene norms strictly. The food testing vehicle will provide quick reports, allowing teams to take immediate action if any violations are detected. Food inspections will be conducted daily throughout the duration of the fair.
