Jajpur Road, September 18: Jajpur police on Monday busted a notorious gang of chain snatchers and arrested three accused persons including the kingpin.
The accused have been identified as Toofan Sahu(Kingpin) Deepak Sahu( accomplice) and Suryakant Sahu(receiver-goldsmith).
Police sources said, following reporting of frequent chain snatching cases in the Jajpur district, a special team of police was formed to investigate into the matters. During investigations, it was revealed that Toofan Sahu, who hails from the Nihalprasad village under the Dhenkanal police limit, was the mastermind of the snatchers’ gang and was apprehended after a number of raids in Dhenkanal. Based on his statements, police reached the aides Deepak Kumar Sahu and Suryakant Sahu.
While addressing media persons, Jajpur Road SDPO Sanjaya Kumar Pattnaik said, the gang is involved in at least 7 snatching incidents. Toofan used to snatch gold necklaces from women after he makes a rapport with the women commuters, by indulging them in intimate talks.
Four stolen necklaces have been seized from their possession whereas a motorcycle and three mobiles have been seized in this connection, added Pattnaik.
