Mayurbhanj, Mar 2: At least one person lost their life, and four others sustained critical injuries in a car accident in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha early this morning. The incident occurred near Gidhibasa Chhaka on National Highway No. 220.

The deceased has been identified as Saroj Mukhi, a resident of Bhandaripokhari under Jashipur Police Station limits.

According to reports, five people were returning in an Alto car after attending the ‘Dolamilana’ celebration in Karanjia. Near Gidhibasa Chhaka, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a roadside electric pole.

Saroj Mukhi died on the spot, while the other four passengers sustained critical injuries. Locals, who witnessed the accident, immediately alerted the police, and the injured were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

One of the injured individuals has been shifted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital, another to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital, while the remaining two are being treated at a nearby hospital.

Jashipur Police have reached the site, and further investigations into the incident are underway.
