Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: If things go as per plan, then Odisha may have Legislative Council too. With 147-Member Odisha Legislative Assembly functioning for decades and a new Legislative Council if created, then Odisha will be yet another Indian state with bicameral legislature.
As per sources, the Centre is likely to introduce a Bill in the Parliament in the coming Winter session for creation of a Legislative Council ('Vidhan Parishad') in Odisha.
Earlier, after passing a resolution in the Odisha Legislative Assembly ('Vidhan Sabha') on September 6, 2018. the state government had sent a proposal for creation of Legislative Council in the state, sources added.
Worth mentioning that already six Indian states- Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, UP and Telengana have Legislative Councils. But, Odisha is also not the only state which have sent proposals for setting up Legislative Council, three other states - Assam, Rajasthan and West Bengal too have similar proposals to the Centre, sources added.
