New Delhi, September 3: The Union Government rolled out new guidelines on Wednesday for the co-location of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) with primary schools, aimed at strengthening early childhood care and education (ECCE).
The framework focuses on coordinated efforts between teachers and Anganwadi workers, ensuring curriculum alignment, active involvement of parents, and the creation of child-friendly learning spaces.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Annapurna Devi jointly launched the guidelines.
According to officials, although nearly 2.9 lakh of the country’s 14 lakh Anganwadi Centres already function within school premises, the absence of a structured mechanism for coordination has been a key gap. The new guidelines seek to address this issue and bring greater synergy between AWCs and schools.
