Berhampur, July 25: A portion of the ceiling in the PMSSY (Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana) building at MKCG Medical College and Hospital collapsed on Thursday morning, marking yet another incident of structural failure in the facility. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The collapse occurred on the fourth floor of the building, where a section of the ceiling had reportedly been showing signs of damage for several days. Despite visible deterioration, no preventive repairs were carried out, resulting in Thursday's incident.

Hospital staff have raised concerns over the condition of other ceilings in the building, warning that several sections remain in a fragile state and could pose a similar threat in the near future.

Constructed at a cost of ₹140 crore, the PMSSY building has been plagued by structural and operational issues since the commencement of patient services. Previous incidents of ceiling collapse have also been reported in patient wards, raising serious questions about the quality of construction and maintenance.

Superintendent of MKCG Medical College, Prof. Durga Madhab Satapathy, stated that the Public Works Department (PWD) has been informed and directed to undertake immediate repairs to prevent further mishaps.
