Rairangpur, Nov 9: In yet another instance of human animal conflict, a youth was killed in an elephant attack in Rairangpur Forest Division in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The deceased has been identified as Sanga Bari (55), son of Madhu Bari from Rajapal village under the Tulasibani forest beat of Mananda range in Rairangpur Forest Division.

According to sources, the incident occurred in Rajapal village at the foothills of Similipal at around 8 p.m. on Saturday when Sanga stepped out of his house. Suddenly, a tusker emerged from behind the house and attacked him, leading to his death on the spot.

Upon getting the information, forest department officials along with the police rushed to the scene. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the Jasipur Community Health Centre (CHC) for post-mortem.

However, as the autopsy could not be conducted there, the body was shifted to the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where the post-mortem will be carried out today.

Villagers stated the deceased’s family as extremely poor and have appealed to the government to provide financial assistance to them.
