New Delhi, August 11: In a significant move in the teaching-learning process, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to try out Open Book Assessments in Class IX internal Exams.
The Open Book Assessments will be carried out on a pilot basis wherein pupils will be allowed to carry textbooks and class notes into the examination hall for their reference.
The pilot project is set to be introduced this year, said CBSE authorities.
As per reports, from the next session (2026–27), the CBSE will implement Open book assessments for Class IX students.
Under this system, examinees will be allowed to use resources from the books and copies to answering internal assignments.
The arrangement will apply to major subjects including languages, mathematics, science, and social science.
According to the CBSE governing body Open Book Assessment is going to be implemented to rule out rote memorization that becomes a major hindrance for analytical and competency-based learning.
However, schools may opt for other prevailing methods of evaluation.
Guidelines in detail on the Open Book Assessment will be later issued, CBSE added.
